			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>in reading wired just a few minutes ago i discovered that they were using a url shortening service &#8211; like the rest of us &#8211; to get users and followers quickly and easily from printed paper to the digital realm with the least amount of typing.</p>
<p><span id="more-120"></span>i was stunned to see that they did not have their own in house url shortening: wired.com/whatev should be sufficient and&#8230;</p>
<ul>
<li>would be nice to add an additional banner or heading to the page that they were referring to</li>
<li>would work very well for tracking the number of visitors that come to the page and where from</li>
</ul>
<p>so in  a thought along this same parallell i wondered if the industry as a whole could benefit from an industry specific shortner for print to web linking.</p>
<p>two questions immediately arose:</p>
<ol>
<li>is there a white label shortening service that  a company can put into use to set up their own blend under their current domain</li>
<li>is there a need for industry specific shorteners?</li>
</ol>
<p>looking into both</p>
<p>Updated: the domain .mg requires the registrant to be a resident of Madagascar. this is what i was considering for the magazine specific url shortener.</p>
